One of those who joined the first-ever Creotec MakeX National Robotics Competition, which opened last October 23, is the duo of Juliana Agbulos and Julienne Hau who fielded a robot that can lift and carry things.

“Mayroon po siyang line follow na sensor then, nakapag-remove ng barriers at hurdles,” Agbulos said in an ABS-CBN report. [It has a line follow sensor and it can remove barriers and hurdles.]

The competition aims to promote robotics and bring it closer to the youth.

“We are showing the Filipinos that we have a good program and hindi tayo nahuhuli sa ibang bansa [and that we are at par with other countries]. We want the students to not be afraid of technology kasi we cannot stop it naman,” Perry Ferrer, chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EMS Group.

Dr. Enrico Paringit, the executive director of the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development, said it is important to provide training for the youth who are into robotics. “We are teaching them para mas ma-improve natin ang skilles nila,” Paringit said.

It was also disclosed that the winners in the competition will represent the Philippines at the MakeX World Championship 2019 in Guangzhou, China from late November to early December.
