The great grandson of General Emilio Aguinaldo is seeking for a more “fair” description of his grandfather’s reputation in history.
Kawit, Cavite Mayor Emilio Angelo Aguinaldo admitted he didn’t like the portrayal of his great-grandfather in the movie, “Heneral Luna.”
He shared, “Ako personally, hindi ako masyadong happy doon. Parang sa mga past movies na ipinalalabas e, masyado nilang dine-degrade or masyado nilang sinisiraan si General Emilio Aguinaldo.”
Being part of the fourth generation of Aguinaldo, the mayor reminded the public of his “Lolo Emilio’s” great contribution to the country.
He said, “Dahil kay Emilio Aguinaldo kaya tayo malaya ngayon. Lalo sa mga students at bagong generation ngayon na dahil sa pakilipaglaban ng aking lolo ay mayroon tayong Independence Day, may ginawang pambansang awit, kumabaga mabalikan ang kasaysayan sana (nang tama) ang kasaysayan.”
He hoped that learners of today would learn of the many great w
ars Aguinaldo has won that was not mentioned in the movies.
Following the recent news that a biopic of General Miguel Malvar with Manny Pacquiao will be made, Mayor Emilio said he hopes that if there will be a movie about General Emilio, the producers should be fair in their portrayal.
He said, “Ang sa akin (at sa amin) lang, sana maging fair lang. Mapag-aralan nang maigi ‘yung history, kasi may kanya-kanyang sides lagi yan e, so sana maging tama.”
Mayor Emilio added that their family is not closing the possibility of producing their own film to correct the reputation of their great grandfather. He said, “Kung gugustuhin po naming pamilya, para maituwid at maging-klaro ang issues.”
