- Manny Pacquiao is open to having Freddie Roach as coach again
- Pacquiao said he wants to visit Roach
- The two hadn’t spoken since the boxer’s loss to Jeff Horn
Manny Pacquiao’s impressive victory against Lucas Matthysse on Sunday might’ve proved the boxing icon can stand without his former coach Freddie Roach. The boxing icon, however, is thinking of getting the legendary icon on his team again.
Boxing Scene quoted Pacquiao saying, “Training with Buboy, I’m not saying that Freddie Roach is not a good trainer.
“He’s a good trainer. He’s a legend. I’m thinking to get back Freddie Roach again. I’m thinking about that. But Buboy has done well for this training camp and this fight. So I really appreciate it.”
The Pambansang Kamao, likewise, said via GMA News that he wants to visit Roach.
“Gusto ko bisitahin siya, kamustahin. Legend na rin ‘yan eh. Si Freddie Roach. Legend. Depende. Open pa rin naman din ako kay Freddie Roach. P’wede ko pa rin siyang kunin.”
[I want to visit him, give my regards. He’s already a legend. It depends, I am open with Roach. I could still get him.]
To note, the legendary coach disclosed last week that he has not spoken with the boxer since his loss to Jeff Horn.
Roach recalled advising Pacquiao to choose between boxing and politics; to which the latter just smiled.
“Marriages haven’t lasted this long. If Manny asked me to get on a jet and train him for free, I’d be the first one on the plane. We have a lot of history. Manny’s my friend. Money … I have enough,” the coach said to Los Angeles Times.
