- Roque said King’s family was appalled that Senator De Lima is using King’s death to smear President Duterte and his family’s name
Kabayan Partylist Representative Harry Roque, a former lawyer of the slain billionaire Richard King, said Davao City Vice Mayor and Presidential son Paolo Duterte was never suspected of having involvement in the businessman’s murder in 2014.
Roque made the statement after Edgar Matobato, a self-confessed hired killer, pointed to Paolo Duterte as the mastermind behind the killing of King during a Senate hearing on Thursday, September 15. Matobato said the killing stemmed from a rivalry over a woman.
There was no evidence to show that Duterte was involved in King’s murder, Roque supposedly said in a text message to GMA News Online. The lawmaker added that King’s family was mad at Senator Leila De Lima, who chaired the Senate hearing, for using the name of their loved one “for her personal and political ends.”
King’s family was outraged that King’s death is being used to smear the name of President Rodrigo Duterte and his family.
Roque shared that King’s family disagreed with the love triangle angle raised by Matobato.
“Police Supt. Leonardo Felonia was charged for King’s murder. Not once was the name of Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte ever mentioned in the course of the investigation. The story that seems to be the most popular is that a businesswoman paid P20 million to have Richard King killed. She contacted Felonia to look for killers,” Roque said.
