• Richard Gomez defended his foray into politics

  • As new mayor of Ormoc City, he said he will prioritize the improvement of the peace and order situation to boost the city’s tourism program

Actor-athlete turned politician Richard Gomez defended his going into politics after winning the mayoralty post in Ormoc City in Leyte.

The actor was officially proclaimed as mayor after getting 53,234 votes to beat the Liberal Party bet and incumbent Mayor Ondo Codilla, who got 44,453 votes.

[It’s easy to say ‘he’s just an actor,’ but they also need to know who these actors are. Not all actors are dumb. I guess not all actors have acting as their only competency.]

[There are times that actors should be given a chance (to prove their worth). Acting is just a job. Actors are no different from other people holding other types of jobs who want to foray into politics]

He admitted, though, that being an actor has its advantages. He said his popularity gave him an edge, but he attributed his success to careful planning on his team’s part.

Gomez has recently earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Perpetual Help, where he was given a medal for Best Thesis.

As the new mayor of Ormoc City, Gomez said he will prioritize the improvement of peace and order to boost the city’s tourism program.
