The 16-year-old singing young military trainee dubbed as the “Cadets My Girl ng Cebu” proved dreams really do come true as she was just named this season’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion on “It’s Showtime” Saturday, held at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City.
Janine Berdin first sang the 1989 hit OPM song “Nosi Ba Lasi” which earned her way in the top three; then later sang her medley versions of Bamboo’s hits “Tatsulok,” “Hallelujah,” and “Noypi” which made her the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand winner.
She got a total of 96.11 percent combined judges’ scores and text votes; defeating second placer Ato Arman of Mindanao with 74.27 percent and third placer Steven Paysu of North America with 61.80 percent votes.
Berdin received P2-million grand prize, an ultimate vacation package from 2GO, brand new house and lot from Camella, a livelihood package from Siomai house, a musical gadgets package from JB Music, premium television sets from HKTV, a trophy created by renowned Filipino visual artist Toym Imao, and recording and talent management contracts.
Arman got P500,000 while Paysu received P250,000. The three other grand finalists who failed to make it to the top 3 got P100,000 each. They were Reggie Turtogo of Ormoc City, Leyte, and Anton Antenorcruz and Arabelle Dela Cruz of Luzon.
