- The animal was believed to be located in the Ketapang Regency in Borneo
- Footage shows it walking across a fallen tree and leaning towards the bulldozer
A heartbreaking video of a brave orangutan trying to fight off a bulldozer as it destroys a forest went viral online.
In the video footage, which was recorded and shared on Facebook by International Animal Rescue, the ape is seen walking across a fallen tree, right in front of a bulldozer. It then grabs the ripper of the vehicle in a bid to stop it from destroying its home, dodging the ripper, but loses balance and falls to the ground.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Ketapang Regency on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.
A member of the Orangutan Protection Unit for the International Animal Rescue non-profit organisation is seen trying to dart the ape with a tranquilizer.
Luckily, the animal was rescued, according to a report by IB Times.
The organization has an orangutan rescue and rehabilitation center in Ketapang, West Borneo; home to more than 100 rescued orangutans.
“Despite all the obstacles thrown at them, our team were able to rescue this orangutan and bring him to safety,” IAR posted on Facebook in honor of World Environment Day.
“Unfortunately, scenes like this are becoming more and more frequent in Indonesia. Deforestation has caused the orangutan population to plummet; habitats are destroyed and orangutans are left to starve and die.”
