- A netizen complained to Grab Philippines after a driver asked her to double the fare
- The driver’s reason for asking two times the base fare was the traffic build up in the area
- Grab Philippines said it does not tolerate the driver’s behavior
A female passenger took to Twitter to complain to Grab Philippines regarding one of its drivers/partners who asked her to double the fare. The driver reasoned that there was already a traffic build up in the area at the time the booking was made at 10:39 in the morning.
The passenger, Mae Layug, took a screenshot of the driver’s messages to her and complained to Grab PH via Twitter.
“Hi @grabph aware ba kayo na may gantong transactions nga driver nyo outside your system booking? Anuto taxi sya, ganon?” Mae Layug tweeted.
Here are the two messages the Grab driver sent her:
“Good morning mam. Ok lang ba x2 po fare natin. Traffic na po kasi ngayon mam,” the driver’s message read.
“Talo po pag base fare lang ng grab,” says the driver’s second message to Mae.
Mae Layug told Grab PH that the driver’s demand was unacceptable.
“@grabph Una sa lahat, hindi kasalanan ng rider kung yun ang presyuhan nyo. Bakit ganyan mga driver nyo, nagpapadoble ng singil? Why, because traffic? I understand their point but to be asking the passenger to pay TWICE the amount is insane and unacceptable. Napakaunprofessional,” she wrote.
In its reply to Mae’s complaint, Grab Philippines said they do not tolerate the driver’s behavior and thanked Mae for bringing the incident to their attention.
“Hi, Mae. Thanks for bringing that to our attention. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior & we have a system in place to sanction drivers who fail to comply with our service standards. Please DM us more details about this booking so that we can review this further,” Grab Philippines said.
