Majority of Filipinos want phenomenal stars Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards to lead the Philippine remake of the hit Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, based on a survey conducted by the Philippine Star.
Mendoza got 92 percent of the netizens’ votes to play Shan Cai’s role while Richards received 53 percent of the votes to portray the role of Dao Ming Si.
The Philippine TV supercouple was formed after their phenomenal team-up as Alden and Yaya Dub (AlDub) in Eat Bulaga!’s Kalyeserye where they interacted via a split screen frame and their main communication is through lip-syncing audio clips.
Kapamilya actress Sarah Geronimo had four points, while Nadine Lustre and Barbie Forteza received two percent for Shan Cai’s role.
Actor Daniel Padilla made 25 percent, James Reid had 16 percent, and Ruru Madrid followed with 16 percent for the role of Dao Ming Si.
Meteor Garden is a television series aired in Taiwan on 2001, it is loosely based on the Japanese manga series Boys Over Flowers. It was first dubbed and aired in the country in May 2003 via ABS-CBN.
In 2007, GMA Network re-broadcasted the series with a different dubbing.
ABS-CBN, on March 2014, re-aired Meteor Garden and it generated a huge buzz on the Internet.
To note, GMA has earlier announced it bought the rights to remake “Boys Over Flowers”, the South Korean version of Meteor Garden.
Will AlDub do the remake?
Richards has been reportedly doing a fantasy series titled Victor Magtanggol but with another partner — Janine Gutierrez.
Mendoza, on the other hand, had recently guested in the children show Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko which got an overwhelming million tweets prior to its start.
