On May 9, Wednesday, senators warmly welcomed Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as the newly-appointed Tourism Secretary.
Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III described her as “an excellent choice” by President Duterte.
Romulo-Puyat, who previously served as an Agriculture undersecretary in the Arroyo administration was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte just hours after Wanda Teo, the former Tourism Chief formally resigned. Currently, the latter is facing a corruption issues.
According to Sen. Sotto, he has known the new Tourism chief since she was a young girl. He described her as someone who is intelligent and has a very clean record in government. Aside from the fact that she came from a family of public servants, the daughter of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo also has excellent academic and professional credentials.
In addition, Senator Poe also commended her; saying that the new chief is a very competent and dedicated public official. She said she is confident that Romulo-Puyat will raise the bar.
Senator Zubiri also shared that Romulo-Puyat is a family friend of his and he knows her as a woman with integrity.
In an ABS-CBN interview, the new chief said that President Duterte warned her not to be corrupt. She reportedly responded “oo naman [Yes, of course]”.
