“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas A. Edison

Iconic Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu has shared how she almost gave up on Shan Cai’s role while filming the 2001 series Meteor Garden.

On Instagram, a fan page shared the English translation of Hsu’s Weibo post.

“When I first received the role of Shan Cai, I did not like her that much. The director took a lot of time to explain her character to me,” she wrote.

“Shan Cai is just an ordinary girl without any love experience and when she got involved between the two big guys it was a shock to her. Therefore, everything is new to her,” she added.

She then admitted that she almost gave up on the role of the lead female protagonist of the program.

“I almost gave up halfway during the filming for I cannot understand her,” she disclosed.

“Thankfully, the audience back then were simple and very forgiving. So I tried my best for them to not hate Shan Cai’s character. Thanks, everyone,” she further expressed.

The actress eventually became very famous in and out of her country; rising to fame because of giving justice to the role given to her.

As what Thomas A. Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Good thing, Hsu did not give up.
