More than 2,800 cops whose relatives ran in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections were reassigned to other areas, said Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Monday.

“As of today, nadagdagan nga pala, hindi na 1,900, it’s 2,875 na ‘yung ni-reassign natin temporarily outside their respective assignments,” Albayalde said.

[As of today, the number increased, not 1,900, it’s become 2,875 re-assigned temporarily outside their respective assignments.]

Albayalde said they will investigate and charge police officers who will be found to have meddled in the May 14 elections.

“We will investigate kung talagang nakialam ‘yon pero as of this time kasi wala naman tayong identified pa na iyong mga pulis ay nakikialam doon sa election,” he said.

[We will investigate if they indeed meddled, but as of this time, we have not received reports yet that some cops are involving themselves in the manipulation of the election.]

Albayalde added that if proven, the guilty ones will be charged accordingly.

Meanwhile, “Red Teams” composed of cops from the PNP Intelligence Group monitored all policemen deployed in 36,781 polling centers across the Philippines.
