After scoring a back-to-back win as Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Actress, Jennylyn Mercado will have to sit it out this year ‘s MMFF race.
She was supposed to do a movie with Coco Martin which is intended to be an entry for this year’s MMFF but the Kapuso actress had to back out from the movie.
In an interview with Push, GMA Network’s ‘The Ultimate Star’ said that she decided to back out from the movie because she thought it would have a conflict with her schedule because was supposed to start taping for a soap opera.
“Nu’ng time na yon, hindi namin tinanggap yung movie kasi sabi ko, magso-soap ako at gusto ko namang mag-focus sa soap kasi baka mamaya, haggard-haggardan na naman ako.”
[At that time, we didn’t accept the movie because I was supposed to do a soap opera and I wanted to focus on that because I don’t want to be very haggard.]
Jennylyn will top bill the Filipino adaptation of the Korean hit series “My Love From The Star”.
However, the taping for the soap opera was also delayed and Jennylyn said they will start taping next month.
In a previous interview, she clarified that her mother network isn’t holding her back from doing a movie with Star Cinema. In fact, she emphasized that GMA has always been very supportive even if she does a movie outside the company.
The actress last starred alongside Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz in the Star Cinema movie “Just the 3 of Us”.
As to why she said “yes” to do a project with Star Cinema, she said it’s a rare opportunity so she ‘might as well grab it and be thankful.’
She disclosed that it was her manager, Becky Aguila, who arranged and asked permission from GMA to allow her to do the movie project with Star Cinema.
