- Alleged Davao Death Squad (DDS) member’s service card shows he is an HS graduate
- His service card also said he worked as a casual laborer, not under Davao’s “Heinous Crimes” section
- Matobato’s neighbors and estranged wife opened up on his personal life
MANILA, Philippines – Amid the Senate hearing on the spate of alleged extrajudicial killings, the Davao City Information Office released the service card of Edgar Matobato containing his educational attainment.
The service card lists Matobato — a self-confessed member of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) — as a high school graduate which is contrary to his claim that he only reached up to Grade 1.
His position also showed him to be a casual laborer from 1990 to 1995 which encompasses the period Matobato claimed he was actively participating in extrajudicial killings.
In his testimony at the Senate, Matobato said he was assigned under Davao City’s “Heinous Crimes” Section.
Good, Bad Neighbor
ABS-CBN also dug up Matobato’s personal details — including his interactions with his neighbors.
According to one neighbor in his former residence, Matobato was friendly towards them even as he separated from his wife.
While refusing to face the cameras, Matobato’s estranged wife did say that her husband was a fish vendor and not a farmer as he claimed to be.
On the other hand, Matobato’s neighbors in Brgy. Sasa where he used to rent a house with his latest partner said he was temperamental — with one claiming that Matobato punched him in the stomach for no reason at all.
Some also said Matobato liked to get drunk and would usually brandish his gun whenever he was inebriated.
Davao City Police Director Sr. Supt. Michael John Dubria confirmed that Matobato used to be a bodyguard of former Samal mayor Roger Antalan. He added he wants to know Matobato’s personality and reason for tagging the local police as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s supposed personal group of hitmen.
