- She urged authorities to exhaust all efforts to reveal the truth with due regard to the rule of law
- Edgar Matobato, a self-confessed member of the DDS, revealed that the president ordered the killing of criminals
Vice President Leni Robredo called the allegations of Edgar Matobato, a self-confessed member of the “Davao Death Squad” (DDS), linking President Rodrigo Duterte to DDS, “serious”.
Matobato revealed that Pres. Duterte ordered the killing of criminals like drug pushers, rapist and snatchers, and the bombings of mosques to ‘massacre’ Muslims, among others.
ABS-CBN News quoted Vice Pres. Robredo as saying in a statement on Thursday, September 15: “The allegations raised by Senate witness Edgar Matobato are serious. We must exhaust all efforts to get to the truth with due regard for our democratic processes and the rule of law.”
In behalf of the Liberal Party (LP), she admitted that they are offended that Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano insinuated while questioning Matobato, that the latter’s testimony is a part of LP’s supposed “Plan B” in the plot to wrest power from Pres. Duterte.
“Related to this ongoing investigation, we are offended by Senator Cayetano’s accusation that the Liberal Party is plotting to oust the President and that I will be the intended beneficiary of this plan,” she said.
According to an article written by DJ Yap for Philippine Daily Inquirer, the vice president emphasized that there’s no such thing as “Plan B”.
In fact, she revealed that in the recent Cabinet meeting, she personally made the assurance that the Liberal Party continues to support the reforms of the Duterte administration.
“As I have reiterated time and again, it is not good for the country to go through another period of upheaval, where the common Filipino will suffer the most,” she added.
Vice President Robredo urged the public to remain vigilant and discerning as the investigation over the matter continues.
