- Vice president scored solon over his claim of LP plot to oust president
- She said she personally assured president no plan exists and that they support him
- She also stressed importance of unity, said PH cannot afford a national crisis
MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo took to task Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano after he accused the Liberal Party (LP) of trying to oust President Rodrigo Duterte during the Senate hearing on alleged extrajudicial killings.
“We are offended by Senator Cayetano’s accusation that the Liberal Party is plotting to oust the President and that I will be the intended beneficiary of this plan,” Rappler quoted her as saying. “As I have reiterated time and again, it is not good for the country to go through another period of upheaval, where the common Filipino will suffer the most.”
Robredo said she personally assured Duterte no such plot exists during a Cabinet meeting.
“In yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, I personally made the assurance that no such plan exists and we continue to support the reforms of this administration,” she said.
The vice president added that she is thankful for her good working relationship with Duterte as he also supports her office’s own projects.
“Whatever my office needs for my assignment, our president gives his wholehearted support. Every chance I get, I tell him he can count on my support. I tell him if he wants something done, don’t hesitate to tell me,” she said.
At the same time, Robredo stressed that support does not necessarily mean agreeing to everything Duterte does.
“I have repeated it again and again, that we have an obligation to support the president. By support, it does not mean we agree with all his decisions. And if there are differences in our beliefs, that is not a reason not to support him,” she said. “Because from my point of view, the success of the Duterte administration is the success of our nation.”
