- Alvarez cool to Aguirre’s suggestion to show alleged controversial videos of De Lima
- He said it’s okay as long as it will connect De Lima’s relations with former driver to drug trade
- He also said it’s up to the people to judge whether it’s really De Lima in the video
- He denied it’s a form of slut-shaming and said De Lima can rebut accusations if she wants
MANILA, Philippines – House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said he has no problem with Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III’s proposal to present the videos purportedly showing the trysts of Sen. Leila de Lima and her former driver/alleged lover Ronnie Palisoc Dayan at the next congressional probe on the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP).
Speaking to Rappler, Alvarez said showing the video is okay as long as it connects De Lima’s purported relationship with Dayan to the proliferation of illegal drugs in Bilibid.
“Well, para sa akin ano, wala naman sigurong diperensiya para malaman ng tao kung talagang totoo ‘yan o hindi. [Ipakita] kung kinakailangan dahil para ‘yun ang mag-uugnay kung merong personal relationship silang dalawa,”
[Well for me, it’s okay so that people will know if it’s really true or not. Let’s show it if needed as it would be the link as to whether the two have a personal relationship.]
Alvarez also denied that showing the video would be a form of slut-shaming, saying De Lima can always show up in the probe and deny its authenticity.
“No, of course not. Well, she’s denying that she is the one involved in that sex video so kung mag-de-deny ka, humarap ka dito at sabihin mo na, ”Di ako ‘yan,’ ‘di ba so if you’ll deny, face us here and say, ‘That’s not me,’ right?)’” he said.
The Speaker said that if De Lima does not show up, then it’s up to the public to decide if it’s really her in the video.
“Ngayon, kung ayaw mo mag-deny during the hearing, let the people judge kung talagang ‘di siya talaga ‘yun na nasa video. I think fair lang naman ‘yun,” he said.
[Now, if you do not want to deny it during the hearing, let the people judge if that’s really not her in the video. I think that’s just fair.]
Aguirre earlier said he would show De Lima’s videos to prove Dayan’s influence in Bilibid. However, they have yet to be authenticated by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) as genuine.
