• Communications Secretary Martin Andanar gave his opinion on Mocha Uson calling some media outfits “presstitutes”
  • Andanar said Mocha Uson is entitled to her opinion
  • He said Mocha Uson’s statements are not sanctioned by Malacañang

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar, when asked about his opinion on Mocha Uson calling media outfits who are critical of President Rodrigo Duterte “presstitutes” in one of her blogs, said the singer-dancer and avid supporter of the President is entitled to her own views.

“Kanya-kanyang pananaw lang naman ‘yan,” Andanar said.

[Everyone has his own opinion, that’s all it is.]

“Lahat naman tayo dito, halos lahat kayo kolumnista. May kanya-kanya kayong column, may kanya-kanya kayong pananaw. Yun ang pananaw ni Mocha, so she’s entitled to her own opinion,” he added.

[All of us here… almost all of you are columnists. We each have our own column, our own views. That’s Mocha’s view, so she’s entitled to her own opinion.]

Asked if Mocha Uson’s statements are actually harming the President’s image, Secretary Andanar clarified that his job as a Communications Secretary is to protect the President’s Office and the Presidential Communications Office and to make sure to give the right message to the public.

“Basta ang mahalaga ho ay ang sa amin, maibigay ko sa inyo ang pinaka-ibig sabihin o kahulugan ng mga statements ng ating Pangulo, na kung minsan ay nami-misinterpret po ng ating mga kababayan.”

[What’s important to us is to give the meaning of the President’s statements, which are sometimes misinterpreted by the public.]

He said he does not meddle in social media debates.

“When it comes to debates in social media, the social media is a free space. We don’t have any control over it, so I am not going to intervene in such debates,” Andanar said.

According to PEP, Secretary Andanar said during a press conference held at Max’s Restaurant in Quezon City that Mocha Uson’s statements are not sanctioned by Malacañang.
