Paolo Ballesteros’ new movie “Die Beautiful”, by award-winning director Jun Lana, was chosen as one of the sixteen contenders in this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival.

Lana shared the good news on his Instagram and Facebook accounts on Monday, September 26.

He wrote: “Kinikilig kami sa tuwa! (We’re overwhelmed with happiness) Our newly finished film “Die Beautiful” has been selected in the Main Competition of the Tokyo International Film Festival.”

Lana also congratulated Ivan Payawal, whose film “I America” starring Bella Padilla, was chosen to compete in the Asian Future section of the Tokyo International Film Festival.

According to the official page of Tokyo International Film Festival, “Die Beautiful” tells the story of ‘Trisha’ (Paolo Ballesteros), a transgender woman who makes a living as a beauty contestant, is dying. Pleading with her friends for help, Trish has one last wish and that is to remain beautiful after death.

Its tagline, according to its poster, is “A glamorous life deserves a fabulous death.”

Paolo previously agreed to the opinion of reporters that he would’ve had a hard time doing movies if he wasn’t suspended in “Eat Bulaga”.

Aside from “Die Beautiful”, he also did “Bakit Lahat Ng Gwapo May Boyfriend”, while he was still suspended from the noontime show.

Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) quoted him as saying: “Mahirap kasi, priority namin ang Bulaga, e.”
