• The notorious Muktadil brothers of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed in a military strike
• The AFP’s WestMinCom spokesman said the killing of the brothers is a major blow to the terrorist group
• The Muktadil brothers served as sea guides and navigators during the group’s kidnapping activities at the high seas

The Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) has suffered a big blow after two of its key members were killed in an early morning military operation on Tuesday, September 27, in Sulu.

Major Filemon Tan, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, identified the slain terrorists as Nelson “Nixon” Muktadil and Braun “Brown” Muktadil; notoriously known as the Muktadil Brothers.

As mentioned in a Manila Bulletin article dated September 27, 2016, soldiers of the Joint Task Force Sulu conducted a raid around 5 a.m. on Tambulian Island off Sulu’s Pata town after receiving information about the presence of the Muktadil brothers.

“The operation was carried out along with concerned citizens of Panglima Estino, Sulu in the vicinity of Tambulian Island, Daungdung, Pata, Sulu. The Muktadil brothers were involved in a series of kidnappings involving 26 Malaysians and Indonesians at the high seas of the boundaries of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines,” Tan said.

He added that the killing of the two men is a big blow to the group Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Alhabsy Misaya because they served as sea guides and navigators whenever the group conducts kidnapping at the high seas.

The Muktadil brothers’ bodies were handed over to the Sulu Provincial Police Office in Camp Asturias in Jolo, Sulu.
