A fifteen-year-old Grade 9 male student stabbed his teacher to death after she reprimanded him of using a mobile phone inside the classroom at the Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Sr. National High School in Barangay Canitoan, Cala-anan, Cagayan de Oro on Monday, September 13.

Senior Police Officer 4 Dominador Datahan, chief investigator of Police Station 7 at Barangay Bulua, identified the victim as 43-year-old Vilma Cabactulan; the class adviser of Grade 9 section Mendeleev. She was rushed to the Madonna and Child Hospital in Carmen town where she later died.

“After he was reprimanded, the student attacked the teacher, who received three stab wounds on her back, and was immediately brought to Madonna and Child Hospital for medical intervention, but she expired later in the day,” Datahan said.

The student, who was not named because he is a minor, immediately fled after stabbing his teacher.

According to a Sun Star story, the boy was persuaded by his parents and uncle to turn himself in to the Regional Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Northern Mindanao.

He was later turned over to the Buluan Police Station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WPCD).

Police Officer 1 Marian Mae Tolentino of the police station’s WCPD said the boy told investigators that two of his classmates were also involved in the incident. The three of them agreed to draw lots to determine who among them would do the stabbing.

PO1 Tolentino said they have yet to talk to the two other boys pointed by the suspect.
