- MNLF leader Nur Misuari wants the Abu Sayyaf included in the peace talks with the government
- President Duterte rejected Misuari’s suggestion
- The President said he will drop the peace talks with the MNLF if Misuari insists on his proposal to include the bandit group
President Rodrigo Duterte disclosed that Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding Chairman Nur Misuari wants the Abu Sayyaf included in the peace talks between his group and the government, with the possibility of granting amnesty to the bandit group.
According to Sun Star, President Duterte, in a speech before members of the Philippine Marines in Taguig City on Tuesday, September 27, said he had been waiting to have a dialogue with the MNLF, but Misuari suggested that the Abu Sayyaf be included.
“Si Nur Misuari, I have been waiting for him… Ang bagong proposal is pati Abu Sayyaf isali na niya. At pagdating ng panahon kung magka-ok tayo, isali niya sa general amnesty,” Duterte said.
[His new proposal is to include the Abu Sayyaf. And if time comes that we are okay, he wants them included in the general amnesty.]
“Pagka ganoon, huwag na lang tayong mag-usap [If that’s the case, let’s not talk anymore]. I will not. For the life of me, I will not,” he added.
The President said he will drop the peace talks with the MNLF if Misuari would insist on his proposal.
“You wait for another President. Ayoko ng ganoon [I don’t like it]… As a matter of principle, I will not accept that… either Nur abandons the Abu Sayyaf or he will take care of the Abu Sayyaf,” President Duterte said.
