- By relocating to the Philippines, he believes it would be easier for him to make MMA flourish here
ONE FC heavyweight champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera said he will be moving permanently to the Philippines and he is hoping to create more Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) champions.
In a previous interview, he revealed that he is already working towards his dual-citizenship.
The 38-year-old Fil-Am mixed martial artist took part in an open workout on Tuesday, September 27, at the Mall of Asia Music Hall together with other ONE Championship stars “Mugen” Striegl, Team Lakay warriors Eduard Folayang and Joshua Pacio.
Vera said that when he made the decision to move to the Philippines, he was relocating physically, emotionally and spiritually and he believes that the open workout like the one they had is a good way for him to connect with everyone.
“I’m looking forward to more events like this,” he said as per an ABS-CBN story.
He believes that by relocating to the Philippines, it would be easier for him to achieve his dream of making MMA flourish in the country.
He revealed that he wants to set up an MMA school like the one he founded in California back in 2007, The Alliance MMA, which is home to some of the best MMA fighters such as Jeremy Stephens, Ross Pearson, and Viktor Pešta, among others.
“I love this country and I really want to give back to the Filipino people and all the fans who have supported me my whole career.”
He expressed that he’s just so happy here in the Philippines.
Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying: “I’m happy that I’m here in the Philippines. I feel comfortable here. Mas masaya ako dito sa Pilipinas. [I’m happier here in the Philippines].”
Vera is set to defend his title this December against a still unnamed opponent.
