Singer-songwriter Jimmy Bondoc reportedly resigned from his post as the assistant vice president (AVP) of the Philippines Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR); less than a month from when he was appointed for the position by President Rodrigo Duterte.
An unnamed source told Inquirer that Bondoc “must have realized he is not cut out for the job.” In fact, the source added, the post designated to him has not been fully explained to him but he has already been provided his own office and has started reporting for work.
Bondoc was criticized online after sharing that he was appointed as AVP for Entertainment.
“I don’t mind people questioning the credentials of some of us appointees. I know that’s part of life. However, I would also like to say that Entertainment is God’s gift to me. I know it back and forth, but I’m willing to learn much more these coming years. Natanggap na ako sa PAGCOR. Sana matanggap ninyo rin ako [I’ve been accepted in PAGCOR. I hope you accept me, too],” the singer said.
“It is not yet entirely final until the board convenes but truth to be told, I already begun working. It’s a 9-6 PM job, and I have begun to learn the ropes,” he added.
However, Bondoc learned that there really is no vacancy to the said position, as Bong Quintana, the current PAGCOR AVP for Entertainment, is a regular employee and not a presidential appointee; therefore his designation does not end with any administration.
Despite the mix-up, Bondoc will not remain unemployed for too long, as the source shared that the singer is eyeing a position in the flagship government-owned network PTV4.
