- He said he would have hanged himself already if he was in De Lima’s shoes

- De Lima shot back, said she will not resign since she’s innocent
MANILA, Philippines – Amid their ongoing word war, President Rodrigo Duterte dared embattled Sen. Leila de Lima to resign and hang herself if she still has any delicadeza left.
According to the president, his expose of the senator’s alleged links to the drug trade and purported affair with her former driver Ronnie Palisoc Dayan have revealed her true colors.
“If I were De Lima, ladies and gentlemen, I’ll hang myself. The innermost of your core as a female is being serialized every day. Dapat ka [you should] mag-resign ka. You resign,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying. “Wala ka nang mukha na ipakita sa mga babae [You have lost face with women]. Follow me, I will show you how it is to be a woman of the world.”
Resign? I’m Innocent
For her part, De Lima— while admitting she indeed contemplated resigning at one point due to the president’s accusations— said she will stay on because she’s innocent.
“On the call for resignation, you know, I’ve told you that has crossed my mind so that they would be quiet, so they would leave me alone, and so that my life would be peaceful,” she said. “But after much reflection, I repeat, resignation at this point will be an admission of guilt and a sign of weakness. And I’m neither weak nor guilty.”
Duterte and De Lima have been at odds over the spate of drug-related killings, with the senator leading an inquiry into the alleged extrajudicial killings committed by law enforcers.
The president for his part has accused De Lima of being a coddler of drug lords when she was still Justice Secretary.
