MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has accused a female senator of “immorality” for allegedly having an illicit relationship with her own driver.
Although he declined to name the female lawmaker, Duterte said she was a staunch critic of the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.
“Here’s a senator complaining. One day I will tell you that her driver himself, who was a lover, was the one collecting money for her during the campaign,” Duterte said in a speech at the 115th police service anniversary at Camp Crame on Wednesday, August 17.
“An immoral woman, insofar as the wife of the driver is concerned, it’s adultery,” the president said. “Here’s a woman who funded a house of a lover and yet we don’t say any complaint about it.”
The President, however, admitted he is not sure whether the money collected by the lover/driver ever reached the senator even as he insinuated that “the ‘intercept’ between Muntinlupa and the driver was far beyond, making sure that somebody was involved”.
“But in fairness, I would never say that the driver gave to her (the money) but by the looks of it, she has it,” Duterte continued.
Again without naming the senator, Duterte hinted that she once initiated an investigation over the alleged extrajudicial killings when he was still the mayor of Davao City, as well as his purported link to the vigilante group Davao Death Squad or DDS.
The president also accused the unnamed lawmaker of politicking and posturing.
“Until now, she keeps on yakking and she has forgotten about the tape that I have recorded. I would like her to eat it in my presence,” Duterte said.
