MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is all praises for President Rodrigo Duterte; calling the new Chief Executive as a “very humble” man and the “right person” to lead this country.

In a live Facebook chat with her fans, Tempo’s Robert Requitina quoted the Filipina beauty queen as saying: “I think we chose the right person to be our president.”

“He is very nice. Mabait s’ya, sobrang bait n’ya [He’s a very good man indeed]. He is very humble and he’s very approachable,” she said.

Wurtzbach has paid a courtesy visit to the president in Malacañang last week. She described the most powerful man in the country as a man with a commanding presence and very approachable.

“As soon as he walks into the room, he has this commanding presence that you can approach him and talk to him. Not intimidating at all. He’s firm and strong but he is also the type of person who would listen,” the reigning Miss Universe narrated.

Wurtzbach is currently in the country and one of the purpose of her visit is to discuss with Malacañang the possibility of the country hosting the next Miss Universe pageant.

In a press release from the Palace, the two reportedly “talked about the similarities between them, with both of them hailing from Mindanao and winning their respective titles as the first Mindanaoan President and first Mindanaoan Ms. Universe.”

On the upcoming Miss Universe 2016, Wurtzbach said she is optimistic about the prospect and they are just sorting out some details of the event before the plan is finalized.

“Of course, everything could still change but I’m being very optimistic about it and I really hope it will push through. That’s what I want personally,” she added.

She’s also hoping that the pageant will be a great way to showcase the country’s beautiful islands and popular tourist destinations before the world.
