• An Ateneo high school teacher was shot dead in Marikina on Monday night
  • A Twitter user claimed the victim was killed after witnessing an armed robbery
  • Police are still investigating the incident

A teacher from Ateneo de Manila High School was reportedly shot dead in Marikina City on Monday night, July 18.

While police have yet to establish the motive behind the brutal killing of Emmanuel Jose “Em-J” Pavia, a Math teacher for Grade 9 students of La Storta and Pamplona clusters, a social media user purportedly claimed the victim witnessed an on-going robbery while on his way home at Barangka in Marikina and was shot dead by an unidentified assailant.

“He witnessed an armed robbery on his way home to Marikina. He tried to help but he was shot three times in the head. He didn’t make it to the hospital,” The Filipino Scribe quoted one Twitter post.

Pavia’s shocking death has prompted some netizens to speculate whether it is drug-related amid the spate of killings in recent weeks where victims are mostly suspected drug pushers or users.

Shot by unidentified gunman

According to ABS-CBN News, a witness heard three gunshots around 7:00 pm on Monday near Pavia’s home on Dela Costa Street.

He was found to have sustained three gunshot wounds to the head. Pavia was rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Police are still investigating the incident and the unidentified gunman remains at large.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page of Ateneo de Manila Junior High School is asking prayers for Pavia, who was also the moderator of the Athletics Council (AthC).

“Eternal rest grant unto Em-J, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen,” the post read.

A Mass is scheduled to be held for him at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, July 19, at the AHS covered courts.
