• Vice President-elect Leni Robredo says she will try to fulfill her duties despite having no cabinet position
  • President-elect Rodrgio Duterte refused to give Robredo a position
  • He said he does not want to hurt the feelings of his friend, Senator Bongbong Marcos

Even if President-elect Rodrigo Duterte excluded Leni Robredo from his roster of cabinet secretaries, Vice president-elect Leni Robredo said she will find ways to fulfill the platforms she promised when she ran for office.

[We respect President Duterte’s decisions in choosing the people to constitute his cabinet. As President, he has the power to choose the people who he thinks are capable of running the country with him.]

“Subalit may posisyon man o wala, sisikapin kong matupad ang mga pangakong binitiwan ko sa ating mga kababayan sa abot ng aking makakaya,” she was quoted in a GMA News Online story.

[But even if there’s a position or none, I will try to fulfill the promises I gave to our countrymen in all of my capacity.]

Duterte on Tuesday revealed a complete list of his cabinet secretaries without the name of his vice president.

During the late night press conference, he told reporters that he is not giving Robredo a cabinet post because he does not want to hurt the feelings of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Non-committal ako diyan [I am non-committal]. You know why? I don’t want to hurt the feelings of Bongbong Marcos. He is my friend. That is the political reality,” he was quoted in a Rappler story.

Robredo and Marcos were caught in a tight vice presidential race that was resolved after Congress finished the official canvassing of votes that named Robredo the winner by more than 260,000 votes.

Duterte and Marcos, on the other hand, are known friends. It has even been widely speculated that the two will be running together should Duterte had not chosen Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. The two also have a solid base of supporters during the elections.
