• The INC has apologized for the heavy traffic it has caused the whole day of May 17
  • The traffic was due to the road closure along Commonwealth Avenue
  • This was to accommodate the medical mission conducted by the religious sect

After blocking one major thoroughfare on Tuesday, May 17, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) sought for the commuting public’s consideration for the traffic they have caused because of their day-long medical mission.

In a story published Tuesday evening, Inquirer quoted INC Spokesperson Edwil Zabala as saying, “Nagpapasalamat po kami sa patuloy na pang-unawa ng mga kababayan natin na naantala ang paglalakbay dahil sa pagbigat ng daloy ng trapiko sa Commonwealth Avenue.”

Zabala, in another news item posted by GMA News Online, directly apologized to the commuters.

“I can only apologize. We truly understand how a motorist, or even someone who is traveling, gets stuck in traffic. How they would feel especially with the heat,” he said.

The religious sect held a massive medical mission on Tuesday along Commonwealth Avenue, which is the main route of residents from Fairview and some parts of Bulacan to their work.

InterAksyon said in a story that social media users expressed their frustration over the traffic that the event called “Lingap Pamamahayag” caused. Commonwealth Avenue was closed from 12:00 AM of May 17 to 12:00 AM of May 18.

“Bumper-to-bumper traffic is seen in front of the Iglesia ni Cristo Church along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon,” posted one Twitter user at around 9:30 PM.

While another aired his apparent frustration, “INC Iglesia ni Cristo medical mission paralyzes traffic along main Manila thoroughfare. No brains to execute project elsewhere?”

In response to queries, Zabala has explained that for convenience’s sake, the venue was chosen because it was near the residents for whom the services are intended to.
